Why two “June gold price” tables can disagree

A difference is not automatically an error. The label “gold price” is used for several instruments, quote sides, calendars, and units.

Instrument

This page measures spot XAUUSD from Dukascopy. A COMEX futures contract has an expiry and can trade at a basis to spot. An LBMA auction benchmark is a fixing at a specific time. A jewellery or bullion table may convert a reference price into grams and add local currency, tax, purity, or dealer adjustments.

Quote side

Every number here is a bid: the price at which the feed quotes the sell side. Ask and midpoint charts can print slightly higher values. The difference is small relative to June’s move but matters when another table reports a precise high, low, or threshold crossing.

Day boundary

FXAbsolute groups this study by UTC calendar date and UTC month. Many brokers build D1 candles from a New York-close trading day. The underlying M1 path can be identical while daily open, close, high time, candle count, and percentage return differ.

Observation rule

Closed periods are absent and never filled with synthetic flat candles. The monthly high and low use observed M1 extremes; the “below $4,000” count uses M1 closes. A site using daily closes, settlement prices, or intraday lows is answering a different threshold question.

For an exact comparison, align all four choices first: instrument, quote side, calendar boundary, and observation rule. The downloadable CSV makes those choices inspectable instead of asking the reader to trust a rounded summary.

The old history survived the refresh byte for byte

Prefix verified

The production file now contains 1,989,529 XAUUSD M1 candles. Its header changed because the count increased, so a whole-file hash cannot prove the earlier history stayed still. The analyzer reconstructs the old 1,871,487-candle header over the current prefix and hashes that exact byte sequence.

All month and date boundaries use UTC. A weekday row is one Monday-through-Friday UTC calendar date, not an exchange settlement bar or a broker-specific New York-close D1 candle.

Open and close

Month open is the first observed bid open at or after 00:00 UTC on June 1. Month close is the last observed bid close before 00:00 UTC on July 1.

Daily range

Highest observed M1 bid high minus lowest observed M1 bid low on each UTC weekday.

Hourly range

For each fixed UTC hour on each weekday, high minus low is calculated only when at least 45 M1 candles are observed. Published hourly values summarize those qualifying date-hour blocks.

Return

Open-to-close percentage return is close divided by open minus one. Close-to-close daily return uses the previous observed UTC weekday close.

Missing time

No missing minute is forward-filled. Closed-market intervals are absent. Candle counts describe observed bid bars, not an assertion that every wall-clock minute should trade.
