FX Replay vs TradingView

Published 2026-08-17 · Updated 2026-08-17 · FXAbsolute

These are different kinds of product wearing similar language. TradingView is a charting platform that added replay; FX Replay is a replay tool that added charting. The distinction decides which is right for you — and neither of their free tiers is usable for intraday forex practice, which is the fact most comparisons omit.

Replay depth, tier by tier

This is the specification that matters and the one both vendors are vaguest about. Read from each on 17 August 2026.

TierPriceIntraday replay depth
TradingView BasicFreeNone — daily and above only
TradingView EssentialPaid~6 months of M1
TradingView PlusPaid~1 year M1 / 15 years M15
TradingView PremiumPaidAll stored data
TradingView UltimatePaidAll stored + 7 days tick
FX Replay BeginnerFree2 sessions, 50 records, 1 week retention
FX Replay Intermediate$17.99/mo · $180/yrFull replay, no session cap
FX Replay Pro$35/mo · $350/yrAdds seconds data, futures/CME
Both free tiers fail for different reasons. TradingView's free plan does not offer the feature at all on intraday timeframes — it is daily and above, which is not what a forex backtester needs. FX Replay's free tier offers the real feature but caps it at two sessions with one week of retention, which is enough to evaluate the interface and not enough to learn anything. Reviews describing either as "free forex replay" are wrong in both directions.

What each is actually built for

TradingView — charting first

The best charting on the market: drawing tools, layouts, alerts, screeners, Pine Script, and a very large community. Replay is a feature within that, and a competent one.

What it is not designed for is structured practice. There is no trade journal built around replay sessions, no statistics accumulating across sessions, and no session concept that treats a practice run as a unit of work. You replay bars and place simulated trades; tracking whether you are improving is your problem to solve elsewhere.

FX Replay — practice first

Built around the backtesting session as the unit of work: you start a session, trade it, and the tool records what you did with statistics attached. The workflow is the most polished of the browser-based replay tools, and if structured deliberate practice is your goal, that focus shows.

The charting underneath is good but not TradingView-good, and the instrument coverage is narrower — forex-centred, with futures and CME arriving only on the Pro tier.

Replay with no session cap, free FXAbsolute needs no account and imposes no retention limit — 28.4 million one-minute bars across 15 instruments.

The most common sensible outcome is both, at different tiers: TradingView for charting, analysis and community at whatever tier you already justify, and FX Replay for deliberate practice. They overlap less than the marketing implies.

Five years, not six months Bar-by-bar replay with drawing tools, limit orders and an automatic trade journal, in your browser in ten seconds.

If you do not want to pay

Since neither free tier works, this deserves a straight answer rather than being left implicit.

FXAbsolute does replay free with no account and no session cap: 28,412,683 one-minute bars across 15 forex, index and crypto instruments from 2021 to 2026, with drawing tools, limit orders, an automatic trade journal and live statistics. On the specific axis this page is about — how much can you actually replay without paying — it beats both products here, because both charge for it.

Where it genuinely loses: no spread modelling (mid-price OHLC), no Pine Script or indicator ecosystem, no futures or equities, and five years of history rather than TradingView's full archive. The charting is plainer than TradingView's by a wide margin.

And one more free option worth naming honestly: BacktestFX offers 9+ years of tick data with real spreads, free with an account and ads. If spread modelling is what you need and you will not pay, it beats all three tools on this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is FX Replay better than TradingView for backtesting?

For structured backtesting practice, yes — FX Replay is purpose-built around replay sessions with a trade journal and statistics, which TradingView does not provide. TradingView is better for charting quality, indicators, instrument breadth and community. Many traders use TradingView for analysis and FX Replay for practice.

Does TradingView have free bar replay?

Only on daily timeframes and above. As of 17 August 2026 the free Basic plan includes no intraday bar replay at all. Essential provides roughly six months of one-minute depth, Plus about a year of M1 and 15 years of M15, Premium all stored data, and Ultimate adds seven days of tick replay.

How much does FX Replay cost?

The free Beginner tier allows 2 sessions with 50 records each and one week of data retention. Intermediate is $17.99 per month or $180 per year. Pro is $35 per month or $350 per year and adds seconds-level data plus futures and CME instruments.

Is FX Replay's free plan usable?

Not for learning. Two sessions with 50 records and one week of data retention is enough to evaluate the interface but not to build the repetitions that make backtesting worthwhile. Treat FX Replay as a paid product and budget accordingly.

What is the best free alternative to FX Replay and TradingView replay?

FXAbsolute offers unlimited replay sessions free with no account, covering 28,412,683 one-minute bars across 15 instruments from 2021 to 2026, with a built-in trade journal. BacktestFX offers 9+ years of tick data with real spreads free in exchange for an account and ads, making it the better choice if your strategy depends on spread.

Which has better data, FX Replay or TradingView?

It depends on tier and instrument. TradingView Premium and Ultimate access the deepest history and Ultimate adds seven days of tick replay, while FX Replay Pro offers seconds-level data plus futures. On cheaper tiers TradingView is thin — Essential is roughly six months of one-minute depth, which is only one market regime.
