The most common advice in trading is "keep a journal." The most common reason traders don't: it takes too long. Manually entering trade data — entry price, exit price, R:R, notes — after every trade creates friction that most traders skip within a week.
FXAbsolute solves this by making the journal automatic. When you execute a trade in bar replay, it's instantly recorded. When you close it, the result is calculated. Open your stats at any time and your full performance history is there.
What the Journal Tracks Automatically
Win Rate
Percentage of profitable trades over your entire backtesting session
Profit Factor
Gross profit ÷ gross loss — the most reliable measure of strategy edge
Average R:R
Average reward vs risk across all closed trades
Total P&L
Running pip total across the session — updated after every trade close
Trade Count
Total number of trades taken — helps ensure statistical significance
Competition Ranking
Live rank vs other traders in daily, weekly, monthly, and 6-month contests
Example: 50-Trade Session on GBPUSD M5

Why Profit Factor Matters More Than Win Rate
Win rate alone is meaningless. A strategy with 70% win rate but 0.5:1 average R:R loses money. A strategy with 40% win rate but 3:1 average R:R is extremely profitable. Profit factor (gross profit ÷ gross loss) captures both in one number.
| Profit Factor | Interpretation | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Below 1.0 | Losing strategy | Stop — strategy has no edge |
| 1.0 – 1.25 | Marginal edge | Caution — transaction costs may erase edge |
| 1.25 – 1.5 | Modest edge | Viable for live trading with discipline |
| 1.5 – 2.0 | Good edge | Strong candidate for live trading |
| Above 2.0 | Strong edge | Prop firm challenge ready |

Open Free Journal →Six months into learning ICT — genuinely six months — I still couldn't apply it in real-time without hindsight. I knew what a fair value gap was. I just couldn't spot them forming live. The fix was replay practice specifically: I'd pause at the killzone open, mark my expected trade, write it down, then play forward. I was wrong 60% of the time early on. Down to about 35% wrong after 200+ reps. Repetition under simulated pressure is the only shortcut I found.
