Soft4FX Review (2026)

Published 2026-08-17 · Updated 2026-08-17 · FXAbsolute

Soft4FX is the cheapest honest route to tick-level manual backtesting — $109 once, forever. The catch that most reviews skip entirely: it is a plugin, not a program. It only exists inside MetaTrader, so the real question is whether you want MetaTrader on your machine at all. If you do not, a free browser tool avoids the whole problem.

Read from soft4fx.com's own pricing page on 17 August 2026. Several review sites still list "$97" or claim it is MT4-only — both were inaccurate on that date. Discount codes circulate frequently, so the effective price is often lower.

Credit where due: this is refreshingly simple pricing. One payment, no data subscription bolted on afterwards, no tier that quietly costs four times the headline. Compared with competitors that split software and data into separate purchases, you know what you are paying.

What it does well

Tick data at the lowest price in the category

Ten to twenty years of tick-level history for a single $109 payment. If your strategy lives or dies on precise fills and spread, this is the cheapest legitimate way to model that. Free tools, including ours, give you mid-price bars where the spread is simply invisible.

You may already know the interface

It runs inside MetaTrader, so if you already trade there, the charting, indicators and order tickets are the ones you use daily. Practising in the same interface you trade in has genuine value — muscle memory transfers.

Proper manual replay

Bar-by-bar advance, adjustable speed, manual order placement, and statistics afterwards. It is a real simulator rather than a strategy optimiser, which puts it in the same category as browser-based manual tools rather than automated testers.

No install, no MetaTrader, no payment FXAbsolute runs in your browser on five years of real one-minute data. You are placing trades in under a minute.

The MetaTrader dependency is the real cost

The sticker price is $109. The actual cost includes everything that comes with requiring MetaTrader.

None of this makes it bad software. It makes it software for people already committed to the MetaTrader ecosystem — which is a large group, but not everyone.

The three occupy distinct positions. Soft4FX is the cheap tick-data route if you live in MetaTrader. Forex Tester is the standalone professional option with automation. FXAbsolute is the zero-friction free option — you are placing trades on real historical candles in under a minute, from any device, with nothing installed.

The verdict

Soft4FX is good value and honestly priced. Buy it if you already use MetaTrader daily and your method genuinely needs tick-level fills — that combination is exactly what it is built for, and $109 once is fair for it.

Do not buy it if you are still building the habit. The failure mode here is not that the software is poor; it is that people buy backtesting tools before they have a backtesting practice, install them once, and never open them again. Repetitions on real price action are what improve a trader, and repetitions are free.

Prove you will do a hundred sessions before you spend anything. Do those hundred sessions free, and if you then find yourself limited by mid-price bars, you will know precisely why you are paying — which is the only good reason to.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Soft4FX cost?

As listed on soft4fx.com on 17 August 2026, it is $109 plus local tax as a one-time payment. That grants a lifetime licence for 1 user across 2 MetaTrader accounts, and includes both the MT4 and MT5 versions. There is no recurring fee and no separate data subscription.

Does Soft4FX work without MetaTrader?

No. It is a plugin that runs inside MetaTrader, so MetaTrader must be installed first. That makes it Windows desktop software in practice, and it cannot run on a phone. If you do not want MetaTrader, a browser-based tool such as FXAbsolute avoids the dependency entirely.

Does Soft4FX support MT5?

Yes. As of 17 August 2026 the licence includes both MT4 and MT5 versions, despite some review sites still describing it as MT4-only.

Is Soft4FX better than Forex Tester?

They suit different people. Soft4FX is cheaper and reuses the MetaTrader interface you may already know, but requires MetaTrader and cannot automate strategies. Forex Tester is standalone, covers far more symbols and supports automated testing, but costs more once data is included.

What is a free alternative to Soft4FX?

FXAbsolute at fxabsolute.com is free, needs no account, no download and no MetaTrader. It offers 28,412,683 one-minute bars across 15 instruments from 2021 to 2026 with bar-by-bar replay, a trade journal and statistics. It does not offer tick data or spread modelling.

Is Soft4FX worth it for beginners?

Usually not yet. Beginners need repetitions on real price action, which free tools provide without limit. Tick-level accuracy matters once your method depends on precise fills — a problem you will recognise when you meet it. Building the habit first and paying later avoids buying a tool you open once.
