# Order block: a real gold example — FXAbsolute Pattern Atlas

> Locate the source candle before drawing the zone.

Instrument: XAUUSD. Timeframe: M15. Price basis: bid. Times: UTC.

## The operational definition

Here the zone is the full range of a bearish candle immediately before a bullish candle that closes above the previous eight-bar high. This makes the otherwise discretionary zone reproducible.

## The two views

![Order block: simplified view of the same real XAUUSD candles; context omitted and price geometry preserved.](https://fxabsolute.com/images/atlas/xauusd-order-block-a2cacf6f4b24-simple.webp)

Simple View: same event, fewer candles. Spacing omits context; wick and body relationships stay intact.

![Order block: actual XAUUSD fifteen-minute bid candles with the stated reference boundaries.](https://fxabsolute.com/images/atlas/xauusd-order-block-a2cacf6f4b24-evidence.webp)

Evidence View: drawn programmatically from historical data. Hollow bodies close at or above their open; filled bodies close below.

## How to read this example

The source candle alone is not enough. The zone is recognized after the bullish closing break. Inspect the full wick range and advance the later bars without moving the original boundaries.

## Replay and non-example

[Open the Replay Lab](https://fxabsolute.com/atlas/order-block#atlas-replay-lab) to step, reset, simplify, reveal the displayed window, and compare the real non-example. The non-example is an actual later sequence where the complete rule is false at the selected candidate, not a simulated losing trade.

Recognition: 2026-06-03T10:15:00.000Z. Display ends: 2026-06-03T12:15:00.000Z. Finite displayed window only. OHLC crossing does not prove trading at every intervening price or intrabar event order. No trade P&L is measured.

## The distinction to keep

The zone does not reveal an institutional order. A later overlap or close beneath it describes price geometry, not whether an order was filled.

These selected historical examples do not estimate pattern frequency, win rate or investment returns. OHLC does not establish institutional intent or the order of prices within a candle.

## Practise in FXAbsolute

Draw the source range once the break closes. Keep it fixed while checking whether subsequent candles overlap or close below it.

## Explore with AI

### What should an AI check in this order block example?

The source candle alone is not enough. The zone is recognized after the bullish closing break. Inspect the full wick range and advance the later bars without moving the original boundaries.

### What should an AI avoid claiming about order block?

The zone does not reveal an institutional order. A later overlap or close beneath it describes price geometry, not whether an order was filled.

### How can I practise order block with FXAbsolute and AI?

Draw the source range once the break closes. Keep it fixed while checking whether subsequent candles overlap or close below it.
